Uneven packages: chase on one side, depth on the other
Fair packages are rarely mirror twins. One chase against a pile of depth is the common shape — and the calculator will tell you if the pile closes the gap, not whether anyone feels good about it.
What “uneven” means here
Uneven means asymmetric composition: a single high-board name on the give side against three to six mid-board names on the get side, or the reverse. Collectrio’s calculators at /cards/calculator and /go/calculator sum board values with quantity steppers, condition or luck modifiers, and a modest bump so a pile is not purely arithmetic. Methodology: /methodology. How-to baseline: /guides/how-calculator-works.
The calculator answers closeness on one board and one lens. It does not answer emotion, dust tax, or grading risk. For lens choice before you package, read /guides/lens-conflicts.
Cards case: one SIR vs depth binder fillers
Setup: you offer a modern SIR that sits Elite on Value. Partner offers four Illustration Rares and a playable ultra that sit Core–High. Unlock /cards with a Value trio that includes at least one of these names if the board feels thin for you. Load the SIR on give, load the five on get, set NM unless truth differs.
If get still lags, add a sixth depth name or accept a favor. Do not “fix” fairness by flipping to Binder mid-package because Binder inflates the SIR’s pride — that is laundering. If you want the SIR for the binder and the package fails Value, say you are paying a Binder premium. Chase ladder context: /guides/cards-chase-ladder.
LP / MP on the SIR matters more than LP on depth bulk. Be harsher on the chase line’s condition modifier. Vintage chase vs modern depth piles deserve even more condition honesty.
- Lock Value for Swap fairness; Binder only for the hold decision before packaging.
- Quantity on depth beats fake condition upgrades.
- Share the calculator URL so both sides see the same modifiers.
GO case: one shiny legendary vs registered depth
Setup: special-trade shiny legendary on give; partner offers multiple non-special Trade bait pieces after registration is paid. Use Trade bait lens. Load Lucky only if lucky. Needs XL if the legendary still needs XL candy to be a Train piece for the receiver.
If the pile closes the board gap but burns their special slot, the “fair” calculator result can still be a bad spend of scarce budget. Tax guide: /guides/go-special-trade-tax. First-trade walkthrough: /guides/first-go-trade. Sometimes split: move depth today, special tomorrow.
The depth illusion
Depth packages look generous because of line count. Crowd Elo does not care about line count — it cares about summed strength plus the small pile bump. Ten Fringe names can still lose to one Elite. Reading tiers: /guides/reading-the-board. If your depth is Fringe-heavy, you need more lines or better lines, not nicer adjectives in Discord.
Off board names do not rescue a package. If half your depth is Off board on the active lens, switch lens or replace names. Off board means the crowd set for that question does not include them.
When chase should not be balanced
Some chase moves are favors, gifts, or collection helps. Run the calculator anyway so everyone sees the gap size — then agree the deal is uneven on purpose. Hiding a favor inside fake modifiers destroys trust. Collectrio is not a courtroom; it is a shared number line.
Nostalgia and conviction can justify unevenness. Framework: /guides/ranking-frameworks. Liquidity-focused partners will not accept nostalgia math — pick partners accordingly.
Modifiers without cheating
Cards: NM / LP / MP adjust expected Sleeve / Swap strength for condition. GO: Plain / Lucky / Needs XL adjust Train economics and lucky premium. Raising condition on depth to close a gap is cheating. Raising Lucky on a non-lucky offer is cheating. The share link keeps modifiers visible — use that as the contract.
Quantity steppers exist for multiples. Two Core names often beat wishful thinking about one Fringe. Building discipline: /guides/building-a-trade-package.
Stay on one market
Never close a Cards chase gap with GO depth or the reverse. Two boards never mix — /guides/two-boards-never-mix. Cross-game barter is outside Collectrio’s fairness claim. Say “barter” if you do it; do not paste two calculator screenshots as one proof.
Worked loop you can repeat
1) Decision sentence and lens. 2) Unlock trio on that board. 3) Load chase side and depth side. 4) Honest modifiers. 5) Read gap. 6) Add depth, swap a line, or declare favor. 7) Share link. 8) If trend on the chase name spiked this week, sanity-check with /guides/trend-without-noise before you overpay.

When to walk away from uneven deals
Walk away when closing the gap requires dishonest modifiers, when the chase side refuses to admit a Binder or Dex premium, or when GO special budget and dust tax stack on top of a barely-closed Trade bait number. Walking away is package skill, not failure.
Walk away when depth is mostly Off board or Fringe cosplay. Rebuild with Core liquidity or wait. Reading cliffs: /guides/reading-the-board. Walk away when the partner demands cross-board balancing — /guides/two-boards-never-mix.
Returning later with a better depth stack is normal. Save the share URL, improve your side, resend. Related building habits: /guides/building-a-trade-package. Related tax timing on GO: /guides/go-special-trade-tax.
- Dishonest modifiers → walk.
- Fringe cosplay depth → rebuild.
- Cross-board balance requests → refuse framing.
