Registration tax, special trades, and friction on GO
GO trades are not free swaps of board numbers. Registration distance, special-trade caps, and lucky/shiny stigma change what “fair” means — Collectrio’s Trade bait lens helps, but the tax still lives in the game.
The board ranks desire; the game charges tax
On /go you rank Train / Trade / Transfer trios. Those votes move Elo on the GO board for Dex, Raids, or Trade bait. None of that removes Niantic’s registration tax when two accounts have never traded, or the daily special-trade limit when a legendary, shiny, or purified-adjacent deal needs the special slot. Collectrio measures relative crowd strength. The game measures stardust and friction. Use both.
Trade bait lens on /go/rankings answers “what do people want to receive?” It does not answer “can we afford the dust today?” When you open /go/calculator, package the same board numbers, then apply luck modifiers (Plain / Lucky / Needs XL) honestly — lucky status is a modifier, not a second market.
Registration tax changes first trades
A first trade between friends burns a large stardust premium. That tax makes “fair on Trade bait” packages feel expensive in practice. For a first careful trade, prefer names that are worth the dust hit — high Trade bait or true Dex holes — not depth filler you could move later when registration is paid. Walkthrough: /guides/first-go-trade.
After registration, ordinary trades get cheaper and special trades remain the scarce resource. Rank differently once you and a partner are registered: depth packages become viable on Trade bait, while specials should still clear a higher bar. Collectrio will not know your friend level; you must.
- Unregistered: spend dust on names you would Train or strongly Trade, not Transfer bait.
- Registered: use /go/calculator for multi-name depth vs one chase.
- Special slot: treat as a weekly budget, not a default.
Special trades are a budget, not a vibe
Shinies, legendaries, and other special-category moves compete for a tiny daily budget. On Collectrio, a shiny legendary can sit Elite on Trade bait and Dex simultaneously — that does not mean you should burn the special every time Discord pings. Ask whether the name is a Train investment for raids or PvP, a Dex trophy, or liquid Trade bait you would rather convert.
Raids lens elevates what people power for battles. Dex elevates living-dex and form chase. Trade bait elevates what actually moves. A shiny that is weak on Raids but loud on Dex still deserves special care if your goal is collection. Flip lenses on /go before you assign Train in a trio that mixes a raid attacker and a shiny trophy — see /guides/how-lenses-work and /guides/lens-conflicts.
Lucky and shiny friction
Lucky trades lower future power-up costs and often increase perceived Train value. On the calculator, Lucky is an explicit modifier — use it when the deal is actually lucky or when you are modeling a lucky hope honestly. Do not mark Lucky to inflate a package you have not rolled. Needs XL flags XL candy pressure; that is Train friction, not Trade bait glory.
Shiny friction is social: some partners refuse mirror shinies, some only want specific costumes, some treat non-legend shinies as depth. Rank shinies on Dex when the question is collection completion. Rank on Trade bait when you are testing whether the crowd still wants that shiny in packages. Rank on Raids only when the species earns the raid slot regardless of sparkle.
Transfer is box cleanup
Transfer means the name loses both comparisons in a trio — better sent to the professor than kept fighting for storage. It is not a slur. Comunities burn out when Transfer is treated as insult theater. Honest Transfer votes on duplicate junk, failed IVs you will not invest, and event clutter teach the board what is not Trade bait. Read /guides/box-cleanup-philosophy and /guides/train-trade-transfer.
Before you Transfer a shiny duplicate, check Trade bait. Before you Transfer a legendary with bad IVs, check Raids and whether a partner still wants it as Trade depth. The board helps; your storage cap decides.
Building packages under tax
When one side offers a special-trade chase and the other offers registered depth, you have an uneven package problem. Use /go/calculator with Trade bait ranks, then decide if the special budget and dust tax make the “fair” number irrelevant. Case study patterns: /guides/calculator-uneven-packages. Sometimes the correct move is to wait until registration is paid, or to split the deal across days.
Never balance a GO special against a Cards SIR. Two boards never mix — /guides/two-boards-never-mix. If a partner proposes cross-game “value,” step out of Collectrio fairness and call it barter.
Practical session on /go
Unlock with one Train / Trade / Transfer trio on the lens that matches tonight’s deal. Browse /go/rankings for Elite Trade bait near your offer. Open /go/calculator, set quantities, set Lucky / Needs XL only when true. If trend spikes on a name, read /guides/trend-without-noise before you panic-Trade a Train piece. For ranking frameworks that separate conviction, liquidity, nostalgia, and utility — useful when a shiny’s Dex conviction fights its Trade liquidity — see /guides/ranking-frameworks. Starter path for dex-minded players: /guides/starter-go-dex.
Tax-aware checklist
Know registration state. Know specials left today. Pick Dex, Raids, or Trade bait deliberately. Rank one honest trio. Package on /go/calculator. Adjust for Lucky and XL. Accept when dust tax makes a “fair” board package a bad night to trade. Collectrio ranks desire; you spend the currency.
- Trade bait for move pressure; Dex for trophies; Raids for invest.
- Specials and first-trade dust are scarce — spend them like scarce things.
